Week 2 at GAB

So the second week is done....and you know what they say "You can't go home again"

Although I am all the wonderful thinggs we do in my new class (job boards, VIP programs, and bi-weekly community circles) and how it helps to crreate a welcoming community for eveyone I find I am misssing my Glenview liffe quite a bit. I wonder if it is the kids, the school, the fact that I'm doing a core class for the "gifties"- as they call themselves- but I am feeling quite a bit more isolated at GAB. At Glenview I got along with my AT sooo well.....this time?....great person, great teacher, just not as compatible....should this effect me? Or is it that this time round I'm teaching Math....a subject I am clearly unfamiliar with that has effected my positivism? Coulld it be that I can see the end of the program coming and am getting apathetic? oh so many questions......hopefully the March break will give me the break I need to catch my breath and get revved up for the back half at GAB

Still having a great time....looking forward to getting back at it

PS- see all you CLMT ers on Tuesday!!!

Welcome to GAB!!

My first week at Gordon A. Brown is done. What a week!

I have some great kids in my grade six gifted class....its seems that they're all activists of some sort!!! These kids are all about the "so what?" when it comes to their thinnking....quite a departure from classic textbook based learninng. This is a wonderful experience tempered by my realizationn that at this point (especially with math) I still need to lean on the textbook!!!!

This practicum is very different than my last one and I suppose I am having some difficulty not comparing the two experiences. Both definitely have pros and cons. Having only two small class groups to deal and to be teaching math is totally new and quite a challenge. PLUS I HAVE A REAL DESK!!!!!

Had the opportunity to join in a new teachers workshops for GAB's family of schools. We had a ggreat seminar getting us deeper into the importance and strategies involved in descriptive feedback. We followed this up with a visit to the Arts Junction (Because I dont have a classroom to deccorate I spent my time at the old button bin....ZAP the Electrical Safety Bird?!!?) We finished up with anoother workshop in the afternoon.

All in all a good week....looking forward to the new challenges in front of me!
